At the City of Edinburgh Running Festival we want to remember our friend and fellow sportsman Sandy Jardine. Sandy ran at the Border Games during the 1970’s along with fellow Ranger Willie Johnston and as you all know he just loved being fit and competitive.
Graeme Armstrong, who still runs at the Games, recalls playing against Sandy with Stirling Albion in the Scottish Cup at Ibrox early in 1978.
A race has been created, on a grass oval track, where footballers and rugby players wearing their boots and club colours will compete over 300m. An offer a £250 1st prize and have attracted a great field of competitors – Rangers, Hibs, Berwick Rangers, Edinburgh City FC, Jed-Forest RFC, Boroughmuir Rugby and Lasswade RFC will be hoping to take the crown from holders Hearts.
There will be many more fantastic races taking place all evening from 6.15pm, finishing with the highly sought after 110m OrthoLink Sprint with a 1st prize of £3000. Come and support our guys, place a bet with the trackside bookie and enjoy food and refreshment at the Canalside Venue Bar.
