Local favourites Co-Optimist Rugby won the 1st leg of the GB7s at Meggetland on Saturday, with a pulsating win over the Newcastle Wailers, 24-17.
The Co-Optimist, with the inclusion of Boroughmuir Rugby stars, Alex Cox and Greg Cannie, had a stand out performance throughout the day, contributing towards the team’s success, with Alex scoring in the final!
It was also a first for Meggetland to see the Irish 7s team the ‘Irish Wolfhounds’ play in their first of many tournaments as they start their ‘Road to Rio 7s 2016.’ The Wolfhounds finished 4th for the day after losing out to ‘Samurai’ 26-21 in their last game.
The quality of the GB7s tournament is now the highest in Scotland, putting some of the best 7s talent in the UK and Ireland. With what was a buys event weekend, Scottish Cup, Glasgow Warriors and Edinburgh Great Run, it was fantastic to see so many club members down to enjoy the day. We hope GB7s comes back to Meggetland next year and we look forward to drawing in more of our members to enjoy this quality tournament.
