Boroughmuir Rugby S2: 12 - 17: Perthshire S2's (game abandoned during second period)

The return match with Perthshire was going to be a different game than the away match at Perth with a large number of key players unavailable due to a few injuries and the Easter holidays which also meant Muir had only 2 subs as well. Thanks to those players who had to also play out of their usual positions too, well done.

Also the late night in the clubhouse for several of the team after the success of the Senior 1st XV in the BT Cup Final certainly took its toll with a few of the boys not quite their usual selves.

Muir started the game well though and in the first period had more than their fair share of possession. The first try coming early in the game after several phases and pressure. A cross-field kick over the defence was gathered by the Muir winger at pace to take him over the line.

Muir had pinched a few of the Perth lineouts at the front and when they eventually threw long at a lineout on our 22m line, the ball bounce kindly for the Perth 10 collect at full pelt to run through the defence and score under the posts.

Muir were soon back on the attack and after a few attempts at the line the referee awarded a penalty try after a deliberate offside stopping a certain try being scored out wide.

A close 1st period with Muir just edging the game by 2 tries to 1.

(1st Period: 8 - 4)

Perthshire were certainly the hungrier in the second period and Muir were beginning to look a bit jaded as Perthshire piled on the pressure. Muir made some loose passes with the ball going to ground and costing us territory on several occasions. Perthshire scored three tries in fairly quick succession to take a comfortable lead. Muir being slow to react to a quick penalty tap to allow a strong run from nearly half way and then some good handling from Perthshire out wide with a few missed tackles to go in for their fourth.

Muir did respond with their 3rd try from a clearance kick that was gathered by our no.8 to run round the Perthshire defence to score.

Soon afterwards the Muir no.8 took a big knock to the head which required on pitch treatment and with not being able to move him until an ambulance arrived the referee and teams decided to call an early end to the game.

Final Score: 12 - 17

With the injury to our no.8 the scoreline was not too much of a concern for Muir and our thoughts were more for his well being.

A huge thanks to a couple of visiting parents, both doctors ,whose son is now playing for Perthshire but was at Muir when he was in our Minis to P4, were very quick to assist with our injured player and took control of the situation until the ambulance arrived. The parents would also like to send their thanks to you for all the reassurances whilst caring for him.

A well deserved win for Perthshire in the end and Muir on the whole performed well and can take a lot of positives out of the game.

Next game is Ayr at Meggetland next Sunday

Boroughmuir S1 Rugby v Harpenden RFC

First match: Boroughmuir S1 Rugby 16 - 0 Harpenden RFC U13's B

Trust Scotland to come up with some rainy weather after a sunny week just before you play rugby! Today we had 2 teams from Harpenden RFC, Heriots and Perth for a 'round robin' type competition. For our first match we took on Harpenden B in our fist match. The team looked good and was going through the phases well. Passing was good, which took the ball out to our left wing who ran in a good try from deep. Some last minute defending saw us stop Harpenden just short of our line, which was enough to push Muir into the next gear and run in three more good tries. Scrummaging was good too and the tackling was getting better. A good first 15 minute game from Muir, coming out 16 - 0 winners.

Second match: Boroughmuir S1 Rugby 15 - 0 Harpenden RFC U13's A

Our second and last match was against the second Harpenden team. Harpenden played some good rugby, but was unable to make any headway against a strong Muir defence line. This allowed Muir to attack and use good passing to the wings to to create most our tries. Some great direct running saw Muir add the 'icing to the cake' and stick in a few more tries to come out 15 - 0 winners. Again, great cohesive play from all the players and some good determination and effort shown throughout. The attitude the players bring to every match is heartening and great to see. Whether win, draw or lose their appetite for remaining competitive is great - and a big 'thank you' from all the coaches. Again, some things to work on at training, but great overall performance from you all. A big thank you to the S2's for catering support and for everybody that came to support the team. And lastly, a big thank you to our ref's for their time and effort. Ayr next week!
