Preston Lodge Tournament
P7 Report
Sometime rugby is a hard game, no just physically but mentally too. Sometimes in not about winning or losing, but the pride in playing for the jersey.....
It's never easy going to a tournament with 9 players, but sometimes it happens. Today was just one of those days...
Pool game 1 was against Musselburgh. Musselburgh played some good running rugby and switched it wide to run in 3 good tries. At times we competed, but found it hard to get any rhythm or structure. which saw us lose 3 - 0.
Pool game 2 was against North Berwick. NB were organised, with some good runners, which caused us a lot of problems. We coped slightly better in this match but their runners were too strong. With a late consolation try, it ended up 4 - 1 loss.
Pool game 3 was against Watsons Warriors. This was the closest game we had and the players were holding their own well. Still the Warriors managed to put together some continuous phases of play to stick in two good tries. A great try by Daniel in the corner pull the score back but we lost 2 - 1.
It was good to see all the players stick to their tasks and play rugby. Today was a 'learning curve' for us. Sometimes we will not have things our own way, but we have to recognise this and dig in and play for pride and for the jersey......
A big thanks to Preston Lodge for their tournament and thanks to all the players and parents that turned up. East Kilbride next week.....
P6 Report
Progression for Muir P6 at Pennypitt
Muir arrived at Pennypitt in numbers.
The weather was good and a certain Fergus Pringle was to be our ref – were the odds now in our favour?
Musselburgh 1 – Muir 2
Warm up done we were first up against Musselburgh.
A nervous start led to a few dropped balls and a couple of penalties however the two sides were evenly matched.
Neither side managing a score before the half time break. Things were still tight in the 2nd half but Muir kept working together to just edge the game
Watsonians 1 – Muir 2
Muir seemed to get into their stride with some great tackling and use of the back line. Again this was a close game.
An outbreak of white line fever in the second half almost caused some problems but the players managed to dig in and take the game.
North Berwick 2 – Muir 1
A quick water and straight on to the next game. Again Muir demonstrated some confident tackling however were struggling in the break down. Muir did however manage to find some gaps to create a some good breaks. Just a couple of handling issues and the odd forward pass giving the turnover. In the end the game could have gone either way but North Berwick were just a bit stronger.
Portobello 4 – Muir 0 (semi final)
As runners up for the group, Muir progressed to the semis against the winners of the other group Portobello
The game was actually closer than the score suggests. Muir defended well continuing to move the ball around
However Portobello pushed up really well as a line to put the Muir players under pressure not allowing them to run with the ball.
At the break down Muir were tending to hang back a little allowing Portobello to take advantage of the steal. Portobello deserved winners but still a great effort from Muir
Good to see development in all the players particularly in the tackle.
Great fun had by all and thanks to PL for a well organised Tournament as always.
P5 Report
Boroughmuir Rugby P5 share the honours
On what turned out to be a fairer day than the early clouds overhead suggested the P5 squad had a great day down by the sea at Preston Lodge. Playing a pool with North Berwick, Dunbar and Watsonians saw the boys have three really competitive and compelling games. The game coach refereeing was excellent and saw the boys being much more expansive in their play than they had been at the Currie tournament. An opening game against North Berwick was edged, as the boys came ‘out of the gate’ on a flyer. The second game, against Dunbar, was a tighter match and saw a few bumps and knocks picked up, but again the level of rugby from both teams was a pleasure to watch. The final pool match against Watsonians was another close one, and saw some great passing and recycling of the ball for some well won tries.
The boys finished pool winners, setting up a semi-final against Musselburgh. This saw a fantastic defensive display by the boys, with some try saving tackles going in from them all. A win saw us in the final against our hosts Preston Lodge. Both teams played some great rugby. The first half finished four tries a piece. The second half was no less thrilling and saw the final whistle blow on a seven try-a-piece belter.
The boys ageed to share the spoils and jointly raised the P5 cup.
