S1 Tour to Bishop's Stortford

A glorious weekend's weather saw Boroughmuir S1's turn out in force at Bishop's Stortford. With 35 parents and siblings accompanying the boys they all enjoyed a fabulous first Tour away.

There were two leagues of 6 teams and we were put in the "A" League. This meant 5 games on Saturday of 9 minute halves against good quality English teams who were generally older and a bit bigger than our S1's because of the English age bandings.

Bishop Stortford A (0-7)

First game for us was against the host club's A team who have had a successful season in their U13 League. This ended up a close game with both teams having chances to score and it was not until the final minute that BS managed to break the Muir defence. A good start to the Tournament and unlucky not to have got more out of the first game.

Saracens A (7-28)

A second game against the eventual Tournament winners was a great performance from everyone in the team. Muir opened the scoring with Saracens bring the game level at half time. Another good half of rugby saw the strength of Saracens who got over the line for another 2 tries by the final whistle. An excellent game from Muir.

Chelmsford A (0-47)

With a couple of injuries Muir found this game hard and although the score was 7 tries to nil, Muir had chances and defended really well throughout.

Wanstead (7-19)

Muir took the lead in this game once more and probably looked the stronger of the 2 sides. A lot of possession and territory couldn't be converted in to tries and if a final pass had gone to hand the final score could have been different. Three strong running long range tries from Wanstead were enough to give them a win and leave Muir with one more game on the first day.

Upminster (7-21)

The final game was another close one for Muir and the size of the opposition finally told as Upminster ran in 3 tries to Muir's 1. Again a good performance and unfortunately the effort put in by all the players all day was just not enough to get a win. A joint photo at the end with both teams summed up how well the game was played and with great sportsmanship from both sets of boys.

Saturday evening saw Bishop's Stortford provide a Ceilidh and with the help of Muir's own piper got the marquee going with some country dancing. An impromptu game of football saw boys from lots of the teams joined by a "few Muir parents" as we mixed with our fellow Tourists. I would like to say the Scot's won but the goals were coming thick a fast from both sides!

Sundays games put us in to a Round Robin for the Vase Trophy against the other teams in the Tournament who had been in the "B" League.

Bishop's Stortford U12's (54-0)

BS always invite their U12 team to play with some help from some of the U13's and although this was a very comfortable win for Muir, BS showed great commitment and spirit throughout the game.

Cheshunt (49-0)

Again a solid performance from Muir in our final game saw them collect the Vase Trophy for all the efforts.

A huge thanks to all at Bishop's Stortford for an excellent run Tournament and to all the other teams for playing the game of rugby in great spirit the whole weekend.

The S1's would also like to thank everyone who came down on Tour to support them and the boys should be very proud of the way they played and the effort they put in to every game over the weekend. Well done boys!

This will be a Tour that they remember for the rest of their rugby days and the S1's look forward to their next Tour, wherever that may take us!
