After winning the league 2 weeks ago, Boroughmuir confirmed their supremacy with a bonus point win in Biggar this Saturday (24-8). The tries came from Stevie Wilson, Robby Wilson and Alex Cox in the first half, and Ross Bradford in the second half.

Boroughmuir had the ball right from the start and Stevie Wilson scored an unconverted try in the right corner less than 2 minutes into the game (5-0). The Meggetland men dominated the set pieces, giving them the opportunity to play in Biggar’s territory, but the hosts held on in defence and benefited from a turnover. They won a penalty at a ruck and Kayle Conner kicked it through the woodwork (5-3).

Muir reacted really well with Jordan Edmunds making ground and good communication at the back between him and Craig Marshall. The forwards were also at work, which resulted into a try by Robby Wilson.David Reekie added the extra points (12-3).

Then, the game was more contested. There were good actions on both sides, notably Adam Best bursting through for Boroughmuir. Attempts from Biggar were stopped by the Muir tight defence, who benefited from a turnover.

Alex Cox converted it into points as he touched down in the right corner. David Reekie converted the try (19-3). Biggar’s right winger Mark Bertram ran a fine line break, giving him a scoring opportunity but he was tackled into touch.

Boroughmuir displayed good passages of play, with good hits by Jordan Edmunds, Trent Sutton and Andy Rose. Biggar briefly recovered the ball as Colin Arthur made ground on the blind side after the ball was loose at a ruck.

However, Muir’s defence was immense. The game was very contested for the rest of the first half, with a very strong maul by the Muir forwards followed by a line break by Craig Marshall. Biggar’s left winger David Paterson also had the chance to take nice steps into the line. Muir held on and regained possession just before the break, with Ross Bradford making good ground too (HT 19-3).

Ross Bradford Flying

Biggar was extremely motivated after the restart. David Paterson broke the line then scrum-half David Reive had an opportunity to score after a clever chip kick. However, the former touched down on the right corner.

Kayle Conner missed the conversion (19-8). Craig Marshall was yellow carded following that try, but it didn’t prevent Boroughmuir from setting the pace and monopolizing possession of the ball throughout the second half.

There were good hits by Sam Johnson and Greig Scott who was close to scoring. The Meggetland men worked hard, and David Reive was sent off. Stevie Wilson put pace on the ball to get through the line but the hosts’ defence was tight and sent Muir back to their side of the pitch after a loose ball was lost.

Alex Cox took the ball back up and found a gap but the referee signaled a forward pass. Eventually, Ross Bradford scored a beautiful try on the right corner, catching the ball from an excellent kick by David Reekie.

The conversion was missed (24-8). Biggar reacted with an interception by Mark Bertram, and Sam Johnson put in a huge tackle. However, Biggar held on to possession and was close to scoring on the right, but Muir’s outstanding defence recovered the ball.

There were good hits by Scott Laird and Robby Wilson. Sam Johnson broke the line, but there was a forward pass as the referee blew time-up (full time 24-8).

Boroughmuir clearly dominated the game, giving the supporters who travelled down to Biggar an entertaining game to watch, and the post-match highlight was being presented the National League trophy!
