Weekend Youth Rugby Results 23rd February 2014

Result from S1's at Currie

24 February 2014

Boroughmuir S1 - 19 : 31 Currie S1

With the pitches at Malleny Park called off the game was moved to Currie High School. The conditions were very poor and the rain lashing down for virtually the whole game.

Currie had the wind and rain at their backs for the first half and really made this tell forcing Muir on to the back foot from the kick-off. The conditions made it very hard for Muir to get out of their half and had to work hard to get going forward. Currie scored the first try after a couple of minutes and strong play from their big pack enabled Currie to run in a few more scores. Muir managed to score a well worked try on the right wing and then when it looked like another try in the opposite corner Muir spilled the ball for Currie to then gather and work their way down the pitch to score on half time. A hard half of rugby for Muir and Currie's pressure gave them a good lead going in to the 2nd half. (4 - 23)

With the conditions more now in Muirs favour, the second half was much better for Muir and we started to take the game to Currie. The tackling and work rate in the rucks was much better and Muir played with more conviction. They were rewarded for their efforts and managed to run in 4 tries to Curries 2. The referee decided that both teams were feeling the effects of the cold & wet so blew the whistle early to get the teams back in to the warmth of the changing rooms. (19 - 31)

Again a much better second half display from the Boroughmuir S1's and after a hard first half playing in to the wind and rain, Muir can take a lot from the performance in the second against a very good Currie side.

Despite the dreadful conditions both teams provided a very entertaining game of rugby and should be applauded for their efforts. A big thanks to both sets of supporters too for braving the rain & wind but despite this were treated to some great S1 rugby.
