Report from S1's Win at Musselburgh

13 January 2014

Boroughmuir S1 - 24 : 4 - Musselburgh S1

(32 : 12 - after Development Period)

After the festive break, the S1's first game back was away to Musselburgh. With a very good first half of the season the S1's wanted to continue their progress.

The last game between the two sides at Meggetland was a combined S1/S2 game and was great to see Musselburgh able to field two separate teams for the return games. With the pitches managing to beat the frost both teams provided a very entertaining game to keep the crowd warm on the sidelines.

The first period was a close affair with both teams and it took to about half way through for the first breakthrough. Eventually Muir managed to breach the Musselburgh defence with the first try of the game and then followed by 2 more tries. The pick of them a break from inside our own half with some great passing and support play between forwards & backs to cross the line.

On half time, Musselburgh scored out wide after a couple of infringements from Muir allowing a quick penalty tap to evade our defence. (12 - 4)

Muir continued to play some strong rugby during the second period scoring a further 3 tries and managing to keep Musselburgh from breaching their line. The commitment and effort from both teams was great to see and a good advert for S1 & Youth Rugby.(24 - 4)

The development period saw a few changes with Muir lending a couple of players to Musselburgh to make the teams up to 15 aside. This ended even with both teams scoring 2 tries each and again a very competitive 20 minutes of rugby. (32 - 12)

A good display from the Boroughmuir S1's again this week scoring 8 tries and a great kicking display with all the conversions successful. Credit to both teams for their commitment and the way both sets of boys wanted to play rugby.

Thanks to Musselburgh for a great game and for their hospitality afterwards.
