Boroughmuir S1 - 4 : 11 - GHA S1

(7 : 11 - after Development Period)

On a very wet afternoon at Braidholm, the Boroughmuir and GHA S1's served up another great game of rugby with the hosts just coming out on top.

The previous game at Meggetland was another close affair with the teams drawing 7 - 7 and we knew this game was going to be another close encounter.

GHA came out the blocks the quickest and after a few missed tackles and some weak defending the hosts were 2 tries up after the first 4 minutes. A few years ago the heads night have gone down but the boys managed to pick themselves up and got more in to the game. The tackling and support play was much better and Muir started to play with much more purpose. (0 - 7)

The second period was much improved with Muir in the hosts half for most of the half. GHA scored a great breakaway try from well inside their own half. Lost ball in the breakdown was collected by GHA and with a couple of quick hands managed to get the ball to their centre who found a big gap in the defence to run in form at least 60 metres. Muir then replied after a few penalties to take a quick tap and with the ball going through some good hands crashed over near the posts. There were a number of chances to score but with a few handling errors and some stern defence the game ended with GHA running out 3 tries to 1. (4 - 11)

With both teams going to 15 aside in the Development Period this enabled both sides to give more game time. Again this was a very close period with Muir managing to get the only score of the final 20 minutes. (7 - 11)

We have now had two very good games against GHA who play a similar game to ourselves and like to get the ball wide out to their backs. With a few players unavailable today the performance was excellent and is beginning to show that we are progressing and getting more depth throughout the squad. Considering the conditions, both teams deserve a lot of credit for the way they both played today. Well done to both sets of players.

A big thanks to the parents who travelled through today to brave the elements and also to GHA for hosting us and making us very welcome on cold wet December Sunday.
