Boroughmuir Colts ran out at Meggetland in their second Under 18 National League match against Ellon.

By Ron Carr - Team Manager

After last week’s National League match against Ayr Colts, the coaches knew what areas they had to work on to win this match.

Never having played Ellon before the team had no information about Ellon, so they were not going to underestimate them. Both teams started fairly strongly but as it turned out, Boroughmuir Colts started more strongly with Adam Miller breaking quickly, and running in the first forwards try.

The backs showed their usual confidence with the forwards beginning to feed them with good ball. The forwards began to show some good clinical spirit at set pieces and contact areas, allowing the backs a good platform to attack from - Craig Hunter running in another try.

The pocket tank, Connor McCormack, known for his crash balls and strong running, had a new buddy, Vilame Delana joining him in this in this form of play.
Unfortunately, Viliame took a yellow for not retreating 10 metres – but being only his second match with the Colts he was possibly just overcome with Muir’s style of fast play and attack.

With Muir’s forwards taking a bit more control at set pieces David Downie No 5 went over for another forwards try. The backs and forwards worked well together maintaining their attacking platform.

Ellon, though, wasn’t giving in, they had some good runs at the Colts and at times kept them camped in their 22, however, the defence stood firm.
Lineouts and scrums worked better this week allowing more and better possession and the Colts took full advantage.
Three more tries were run in with some excellent combination work between the backs and forwards.

Lewis McSporran ran a blinder down the wing, scoring his try, then not long after that George Archibald and James Pinkerton ran in one each. Again though, Ellon came back keeping Muir in their 22 and again defence became a key part, eventually though; Ellon ran in a good try themselves.

This was good work from a new Colts team, who came up from the under 16’s.
Still some work to be continued with them but overall a really good performance.
Next Saturday will be another trial when the Colts travel to Stirling for the next match.

Final score was Boroughmuir Colts 37 and Ellon 5.
