Players from Boroughmuir Rugby Club 1st XV, Edinburgh, braved the cold and bared themselves to help Marie Curie Cancer Care launch their newest fundraising event – the Marie Curie Skinny Dip.

Boroughmuir Rugby Club have been devoted and loyal supporters of the charity, having donated in excess of £25,500 to Marie Curie over the past 6 years.

The team, led by captain Andy Rose, were delighted to bare all for Marie Curie. “It’s great to see such amazing support from a new generation of Boroughmuir Rugby Players,” says Isobel.

“As part of Boroughmuir Rugby and Community Sports Club’s commitment to making a positive difference and contribution to our community, we adopted the Marie Curie Hospice at Fairemilehead after the wonderful nursing and support shown to our British Lion, Bruce Hay, in his final days in the hospice, as well as the care given to former players Hugh MacMaster, Gordon Irving and many others including our own loved ones.” says Allan Mackay, Past President of Boroughmuir Rugby Club.

Taking place on the 2nd June at four locations throughout the UK, including East Lothian, Marie Curie is daring the Scottish public to bare all in a massive Skinny Dip. As well as raising much needed funds for Marie Curie, organisers also hope to set a new world record for the biggest ever skinny dip. The Scottish Skinny Dip will take place early in the morning on a beautiful beach location in East Lothian. Shrouded in secrecy for now, the exact location of the dip will be revealed on registration.

After a dash into the cold sea, skinny dippers can enjoy hot drinks and post-event festivities to celebrate.

“Our Skinny Dips are to be a celebration of life” says Isobel Paul, Regional Events Manager for Scotland at Marie Curie, which nurses people in the final stages of life. “We hope everyone coming along will have fun feeling the elements, as they take part in our world record breaking attempt.”

The current Guinness World Record was set in 2011 when 413 people plunged into the sea in South Wales, for the world’s biggest skinny dip. This year the aim is to get as many people involved as possible to break our own record: www.mariecurie.org.uk/skinnydip

The event is also being promoted through celebrity Gok Wan’s website throughout April as Gok’s Charity of the Month for April, highlighting the Skinny Dip event and the nursing services providing care to terminally ill people: www.gokwan.com/charities
