Thanks to the efforts of father and son Eric and Robbie McKenzie, Touch Rugby is on its way back to Meggetland this summer
Robbie, national director of coaching touch rugby in Scotland, and a former Scotland captain, is currently coaching in Australia, and the McKenzies aim to resurrect the sport at Meggetland, as it was ten years ago, when hundreds turned out every week.
It will be a community event, with all age groups and standards catered for, and mixed or all-women teams will be warmly welcomed. There's a lot of Touch Rugby being played in Scotland, from social to elite levels, and Scotland is the leading nation in Europe where over 20 countries regularly compete.
At this moment, a Scottish international 'mixed' team is playing in Australia, having been invited to the top club competition in world Touch. Yes, it's a mixed side.
Touch is played by all ages, sizes, shapes, female and male. It is truly a family and community sport and as such it is an ideal fit with our community club effort here at Boroughmuir.
We feel that there is an opening for a Friday evening tournament and a great way to unwind and begin the weekend. We intend running a tournament for our community starting this summer.
The games will be played on Friday evenings, with most players probably coming straight from work, and there will be food and drink available in the clubhouse afterwards.
