U16s v Preston Lodge
Muir U16 went to PL today in the District Cup and put in another fine performance winning 53-0. It was cold and threatening snow but Muir had a full side out and a loaded bench. The Muir forwards turned up in style again today and the feed from Orr at 9 was sharp. With Wood, Kay, Sinclair at stand off and centres, Gilligan and McDonagh on the wings and our running FB Stoddart the team put on a great show in the first half. The team ran in some great tries through the PL mud. PL stuck in and in the 2nd half they kept Muir out for a lot of the half. The Muir pack took over and some great ball winning and straight running through the heart of the PL pack saw a brace of forward tries from Wilson (on is dad’s home turf), Keane and Robertson. Well done on a 53-0 win.
U15s v Watsons
Sadly, the U15s were significantly under strength for this match having only 12 turn up, owing to the school half term and call offs. Watsons however turned up with a squad of 20, hungry for action and since we had to forfeit the match, we played an encouraging friendly, sharing some of their players to even things up at least a little. This was actually an encouraging game, despite the score line, and of particular note was the competitive play around the breakdown where our rucking provided generally positive rewards, along with our setpiece holding its own. Our weakness today, other than numbers,(and not being able to field fresh legs) was our tackling, which was most likely reflective of a lack of practice and game time. Particular praise needs to be made of the two temporary recruits from the S2s, namely Ian and Lee, who looked as if they’d been playing at this age grade the whole season – two very creditable performances!
With half term the P1-7s and S1-2s had no matches.
