Boroughmuir Colts 31 v Peebles Colts 24
Running on to the pitches on Saturday to meet Boroughmuir's Colts in the Under 18 National Cup were the Peebles Colts. Recent matches like this had been cancelled a number of times due to adverse weather conditions.
The hope this day was that the recent spate of a shortage of matches and of proper training conditions would not affect the Colts normal playing abilities. However, in the first 15- 20 minutes, 2 early tries run in by Nathan Watson, with great team support, demonstrated that Boroughmuir Colts would not let any lack of training or matches affect their resolve to continue to win matches.
Nathan's tries were run in using rockets and bunkers: moves that the Colts often employ in their training nights. Peebles, who play in a tough league, were not slow to respond to Muir's plays. They started to apply pressure to Boroughmuir Colts and started scoring themselves.
Connor McCormack, running up the pitch like a streamlined steamroller then ran in Muir's 3rd try. Peebles kept up their pressure and played some really good rugby to keep their score ticking over.
Chris Ward, one of Muir's big strong players, then ran in another power try. Peebles piled on pressure again, trying to hold Muir up near to their 22. Muir though, eventually cleared, and with some good down-field running by the team, Ian Martin kicked a great cross-field kick which Robin Sloan picked up and ran in Muir's last try of the match.
The whole team, after so many cancellations of matches, and training time, deserve whole hearted applause for their great effort in now reaching the Cup quarter final.
The Colts next match is Saturday 9th at home. KO to be notified
