This was the last league match for the Muir team and entry into the National Cup was at stake.
They needed all 4 points from a win to stand a chance.
It was snowing at Peffermill but the 3G pitch was in good condition. Muir had a full strength squad back for the first time in 4 months. Muir opened with some strong forward play and a drive up to the line with resulted in a pick-up and drive from our Number 8 and a first try from Finlayson, converted by Wood at standoff.
Forresters had a very large centre and pressured the Muir line several time. The line held and Muir fought back with some great forward support and a fantastic McDonagh blind side wing with a run off the Muir standoff, Wood, the inside ball saw McDonagh run 50m and a final inside off load to Sinclair saw a try scored under the posts.
There were 2 other tries from a fast elusive back line as Muir put more tries on the board.
Forresters came back in the 2nd half but the final score was a decisive win for Muir at 27-17.
The Portobello result at Cavelry Park saw Portobello unexpectedly beat Musselburgh.
That put Muir out of the National Cup and into the District Cup. Games start on the 10th Feb, these boys just don't get enough rugby!
