It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Boroughmuir Life Member and ex club director, Albert Fagan.
Albert was a fantastic influence on our club, he was brilliant company and took it as a personal goal to ensure that everyone and anyone who came to the club had a brilliant time at Meggetland.
Albert was appointed the Sales and Social director of our club in 2003. It was a purple patch for our club, winning leagues and cups whilst he was one of our directors. It was also a challenging time – when Meggetland was being re-developed and we successfully moved from our old clubhouse into our new facility. Albert played his part, ensuring members were kept onside and involved, by including them in any labouring duties that were needing done!
Albert loved a social trip, with special mention for our 50 strong 6 nations trip to Paris in 2003 and his trip to New Zealand with the Lions in 2005. In 2007 he was awarded our clubman of the year.
After his directorship at Boroughmuir, Albert still had plenty of energy and was a leading light in the re-energising of Merchiston Bowling and Tennis Club, just up the road, eventually becoming President of the Bowling Club.
Albert was a very popular man with a brilliant sense of fun. He had a knack of making people feel comfortable and valued in his company. He was a diligent and hardworking servant of our club and he will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
Our love, thoughts and sympathy go out to Gill, Albert’s son Garry, Gill’s daughter Anna, her son in law Ian and their children.
Albert’s funeral will be held at Mortonhall main chapel on 3rd July at 10am.
The picture shows Albert enjoying a beer in Paris in a six nations weekend in 2003.
