New Coaches for Boroughmuir Rugby
Boroughmuir Rugby and Community Sports Club is pleased to announce the appointment of Lewis Robinson (Head Coach) and Patrick Atkinson (Assistant Coach) as player coaches for Boroughmuir Club 1st XV next season.
We are excited by these appointments; both Lewis and Patrick are highly motivated, well organised, passionate about Boroughmuir and see the potential we have in our squad. Both have always wanted to coach Boroughmuir and being a player coach is a natural first step.
Lewis said he is delighted to be part of the coaching set up at Boroughmuir. He is excited by the players coming through our Youth Academy and looks forward to working with and developing this youthful team into a strong winning team and helping those players achieve their potential.
Patrick is excited at the opportunity to help coach the club he has grown to love. Before joining us, Patrick played at the University of Liverpool and Montreal Irish where he also coached. Patrick has spent time playing for Ilkley RFC and completed a season in New Zealand with the University of Otago before coming to Edinburgh.
Lewis and Patrick will be part of a strong rugby coaching set up at Boroughmuir, which includes Peter Wood and Dave Cockburn.
Club President, Stevie Douglas, said: “The energy and burning ambition that Lewis and Patrick brought to the table was inspirational. They outlined a strong approach on how we would re-establish our 1st XV at the top level of the amateur game. We are now working on providing a strong management team to support them and give us and our players every opportunity to succeed”.
Lewis and Patrick take up their posts on 1st July 2021.
Graeme Blackhall, Boroughmuir Head of Rugby.
I am delighted to come on board as part of the coaching set up at Boroughmuir, I look forward to helping this group of players become a part of the long and storied history of the club. Having been at Boroughmuir since my u12s trial for the club, I have grown up at meggetland watching the first XV battle week in week out, wanting to be part of that environment. I am excited and thankful to the club for helping me through the years to realise that ambition.
As a player, I was always interested in how each drill and practice made me a better, having played age grade rugby in Edinburgh I have had access to some of the best coaches in the country. Even as a youngster, these coaches’ enthusiasm, knowledge about the game and ability to better each individual as part of a team was something I admired and now looked to one day emulate.
As a development officer for the club I learned a lot from Muir legend Ross Young, he was a huge influence on how I think, look and breakdown the game. It is this work in rugby development that brought me into the coaching world and with the exciting youth players coming through the academy set up at Muir over the last few years, I look forward to working with and developing this youthful team into the talents they show promises of becoming.
I arrived in Edinburgh in September 2020 and chose to play for Boroughmuir due to its history and opportunity to aim towards playing with the bears. Before this I played at the University of Liverpool and Montreal Irish where I also coached to help the team. I also spent time playing for Ilkley RFC and completed a season in New Zealand with the University of Otago. I have only felt welcomed at Muir during the last couple of years and believe this connection has created a loyalty which I’d like to payback through my commitment to this coaching role.
