What was such a strong start to a promising game, control, running and cohesion was just not quite enough to hold out a determined Edinburgh Accies at the death. Muir produced a strong display in the first half to score some well-deserved points and set the pace they wanted to play. Unfortunately the nail was not hammered home by Muir and a few loose passes and mistakes gave Accies the confidence to produce a comeback.
With minutes to go and the scores 15 all, Accies showed composure to set up their kicker for a drop goal attempt which was successful. Accies winning 18-15.
A lot has been said about the season structure, number of games home and away and management of fixtures. Has the number of away games impacted the team’s performance? Has enough planning been put in place to ensure players are focused on travelling each week?
We will see the answer to these questions coming into November where, in return, we will have our boys back at Meggetland. What is frustrating for the 1stXV are the small mistakes the cost games. They not losing by large numbers, but each player knows where it went wrong for them. What they do value week in and week out is the support from the side lines and the shouts of encouragement.
Wherever we are, Muir will stand strong together.
