Boroughmuir V Heriots
Match Report by Craig Dawson
This young Boroughmuir side are not quite yet the finished article but continue to develop each week. Today against an experienced Heriots side they just could not win enough ball to get their exciting back line into the game more often. The line out just did not work today and to often our forwards were bullied off the ball at the break down. However there is a great never say die attitude and once again this week they fought back in the dying stages of the match to claim a bonus point.
Again this week we had a match that was a great advert for the Scottish Club game with both sides running ball at every opportunity.
Heriots struck first with a penalty from Alex Haggart after five minutes to giev them a 0-3 lead but from the kick off good Muir pressure in the Heriots 22 resulted in a penalty which Dougie Steele kicked to level the score at 3-3.
Heriots responded strongly and Murray McConnel went over for a converted try to give them a 3-10 lead. Again Muir responded well with Jordan Edmunds & Grant McConnell interchanging to go close. Continued pressure reulted in another Muir penalty which Dougie Steele again kicked to reduce the deficit to 6-10.
Heriots dominated the final stages of first half with Muir giving up two kickable penalties which Haggart scored to them a 6-16 half time lead.
Muir started the second half strongly and mounted some good attacks with Jordan Edmunds to the fore. Another Dougie Steele penalty reduced the deficit to 9-16.
Great pressure from the Heriots pack resulted in a number of scrums on the Muir line and eventually the referee awarded Heriots a converted penalty try to give them a
9-23 lead going into the final quater.
However just as they had done last week against Watsonians Muir refused to lie down a were rewarded when a great run by Dougie Steele found Jamie Scott in support who went in under the posts. Steele converted to make the final score 16-23 and earn Muir a bonus point
