Thanks to Boroughmuir, Ayr, Currie, Dunfermline, Hamilton, Livingston, Mackie and Stirling County, for supporting the tournament and, in some cases, travelling a long way to get to Meggetland.
Our annual U15 tournament, sponsored by our community partners, Commsworld, is in memory of one of Boroughmuir Rugby’s former players and supporters, Charlie McLennan, and we are grateful to his partner, Maureen Clowe, for her continued support. Although not that common, the ten-a side game is an ideal opportunity for players to show their flair and skills in attack and defence, and we look forward to seeing some exciting rugby today Charlie McLennan was born in the Bruntsfield are of Edinburgh. He attended Bruntsfield Primary and Boroughmuir High School.
It was at Boroughmuir that Charlie developed his love of sport and where he was introduced to rugby Charlie’s successful 10 seasons (1950-60) playing for Boroughmuir RFC’s 1st XV brought a Scottish Championship medal in season 1954-55, as well as several 7s medals. Rugby correspondent, Harry Pincott, in his tribute to Charlie in a Boroughmuir match programme, describes him as a ‘key member of the First XV with his ability to play anywhere in the back division – at centre, fullback, on the wing, and at half-back where his excellent boot was put to good use’.
Harry remembers Charlie as one of his mentors when he made his 1st XV debut at the age of 16 at Aberdeen’s GSFP ground.
It all kicks off at Meggetland this Sunday, 8th May at 1pm.
