Reigning BT Premiership Champions Heriot’s claimed a 35-7 bonus point win over local rivals Boroughmuir at Goldenacre to move second in the table.

Both teams were looking to get their season back on track after a difficult run of results in recent weeks had left either side short of form.

Heriot’s led 15-0 at the interval, before Boroughmuir fought back with a converted try from Callum Reid after the home side lost Ian Wilson and captain Jack Turley to the sin bin.

The hosts soon found rhythm in the second-half once their back-row returned and put three tries past Boroughmuir to claim the bonus point win.

Heriot’s head coach Phil Smith, said:

“We are really pleased to get back to winning ways.”

“In previous weeks we have been chasing games after going behind, but today we were in charge from the start to see it through."

“Even when we went down to 13 men, we still managed a penalty score and it just shows the spirit of this current group of players.”

It was Heriot’s who opened the scoring after Turley managed to dislodge the ball from Boroughmuir to find John Rae, who sprinted to go over in the 11th minute with Graham Wilson adding the conversion.

Wilson struck again with a successful penalty minutes later, before an impressive break from Cameron Ferguson up the middle found Max Learmonth in support for Heriot's second try.

It remained 15-0 to Heriot’s at the break with yellow cards then dominating the opening of the second-half, Turley following Wilson to the bin after collapsing the maul within the opening 10 minutes.

Boroughmuir made the most of the number advantage in the scrum to open the gate for Callum Reid, with Dougie Steele adding the conversion in the 56th minute.
Minutes later, Heriot’s responded through a penalty from Wilson before Struan Dewar took the ball from the back of the scrum inside Boroughmuir’s 22 to canter over as Wilson converted.

Charlie Simpson found himself in space on the left wing to kick on for Heriot’s bonus point score inside the closing 10 minutes.

Further pressure from the hosts resulted in a final try from replacement Murray McCallum who crashed over from a maul in the 78th minute to round up an impressive win for Heriot’s.
