Report from the Scotsman

HAWKS hung on by the skin of their teeth as Boroughmuir awakened from their Old Anniesland slumbers a little too late.

It was the perfect example of a game of two halves, with the visitors narrowly failing to complete a stirring salvage act.

Craig Marshall sparked the late surge from the Meggetland men with an opportunist try, leading up to an incident-packed finale.

The relentless pressure forced Hawks into repeatedly offending close to their line, and referee Duncan McClement lost patience. He brandished the yellow-card at Andrew Hill three minutes from time and awarded Muir the penalty try which seemed equally inevitable.

Luckily for the hosts, they had the slenderest possible cushion, which they managed to hold until the end of a disjointed contest.

Hawks had taken advantage of Muir’s carelessness and lack of urgency to carve out touchdowns for Gary Strain, pictured, and Stephen Findlay and two penalties by Warriors pro Gregor Hunter.
