A number of former and current Boroughmuir players represented a Lothian and Borders Police side in a memorial match for Steve Cully, a police officer who died suddenly a year ago.
The match was against a Steve Cully XV made up of a number of ex Scottish internationalists which included Barry Stewart, Gav Kerr, Doddie Weir, Adam Roxburgh, Gary Armstrong, Gregor Townsend, Scott Hasting, Duncan Hodge, Craig Joiner and Cammy Murray.
Former Boroughmuir man Peter Wright provided an entertaining commentary with his side kick Richie Grey.
Following a close first period the Cully XV showed that, despite a lack of rugby in recent years, their skill levels were still evident with some great attacking plays from Gregor Townsend and Craig Joiner. An entertaining afternoon of rugby followed with the select team running out comfortable winners, 34 – 10, in what was a fitting tribute to Steve.
